I made a return trip to Phnom Penh tonight for dinner. Sharon was in town from New York and organized a dinner with her family and some friends including my sister and me. She claims it is better than the Vietnamese and Cambodian food that you find in those countries, so when I suggested it as a venue for dinner she jumped at it. Our dinner began with a chicken and rice dish that had been cooked in a clay pot. Sharon's mother had called ahead to order it. The flavours were hard to describe. Some ginger. Black fungus. Great tasting, but the best part was the rice that had become brown and crisp. I loved the crunchy rice bits even more than the chicken.
